Hostwinds Account Security is a top priority, and we take this very seriously. We go to great lengths to make sure your web hosting services are as secure as possible with the latest versions of the Operating System and cPanel/WHM for you so that you can focus on building your website.
We also have a team of engineers constantly monitoring your server and the Hostwinds network to maximize server uptime. Our engineers monitor your server 24/7/365.
We provide users with a unique, randomly generated username to avoid possible brute-force attempts into your account and ensure account security.
Your cPanel / FTP account details should be kept confidential and secured to ensure you are the only one with access to your account.
If you need to change your cPanel / FTP account password, we suggest doing this every few months for your cPanel account, email accounts, database users, and any website applications that have elevated privileges to prevent unauthorized access to your account.
Insecure passwords represent the most common security vulnerability. If a hacker compromises an account password, they can use it to deface or infect client sites or use them to spread viruses.
cPanel is inherently secure and uses an encrypted connection for you to log in to your services. An encrypted connection does not transmit your username and password in plain text when you sign in to your cPanel services.
To access your cPanel account, you can log in securely through the client area and navigate the Manage button by your Shared or Business web hosting services. From there, you can use the Login to cPanel option on the left side of the page.
To access cPanel directly, you can use the login URL provided when you first signed up for your services. There are several other methods to access cPanel if you wish to access it directly in your browser using a direct URL.
Your domain's DNS information must propagate before accessing cPanel, WHM, or Webmail with your domain name. If you cannot access the interface with your domain name, use your domain's IP address. It may take up to 48-72 hours for your domain to propagate after setting up the DNS information. After your domain propagates, navigate to your website via your domain name.
To gain access to your Hostwinds account, you will want to log in with the email account you used when you first signed up with Hostwinds and your account password.
You can log in anytime at https://clients.hostwinds.com to manage your web hosting services using an SSL connection and encrypted URL.
